An Energizing Meeting – July 25

Hello!

You never know what the day will bring!  Today’s meeting could have been a disaster because several of our usual attendees were not able to be here, but it turned out to be awesome.  We had four guests. Thanks to Naomi for inviting Allyson Brooks from G-Toasts to attend and take on the Master Evaluator role.  Janice Hom, a frequent Toastmaster guest, also attended.  Of our other two guests, Gina was a former Toastmaster, and Yakubu was new to Toastmasters.  Rounding out the group was Phil, Anne, Lisa, Bob, and myself.

Our theme was “school days.”  Bob gave an enlightening speech about “Back to School” and his experience taking a week long series of courses on a fascinating selection of topics such as sketching, social justice, evolution of religion, and music to name a few.

Lisa jumped in at the last minute to take on the Table Topics role and she did a fantastic job. Our guests pointed out how seamlessly she moved from question to question while acknowledging the responses from each speaker.

Allyson did a wonderful job of taking on the Master Evaluator role in a club she hasn’t visited before.

It was very encouraging to hear our guests comment on our club being “tech savvy” (referring to our use of Google forms and Timer backgrounds), members taking on multiple roles successfully, having a “structured” and “well-run” meeting, and enjoying the “energy” of the group. A couple of guests commented that the meeting was “anchoring” in the midst of a busy day.

For me, at a time when I am more than a little jaded, it was a wake up call that our club is nurturing and I am energized in my efforts to keep our club active.  Hope to see you all in person at our Awards Luncheon at the Trellis Restaurant next Tuesday.
