Club Meeting – August 22, 2023

What’s for Dessert?

Who can go wrong when the theme of the meeting is Desserts? Toastmaster Reema revealed that sweets have been on her mind a lot, so the choice of theme seemed appropriate. She learned that Phil’s favorite dessert is his mother’s devil’s food cake with her special white frosting that developed a crust after a day or two. So far, he’s never had a cake like it. Naomi’s favorite is mochi manju from a store in downtown Los Angeles, and Tina likes traditional western cakes.

Naomi gave a speech about evaluating speeches. She brought in elements of the theme to illustrate her points (who knew evaluations could be likened to apple cobblers?) which made the speech entertaining and memorable for the audience.

During a lively Table Topics session, handily led by Tina, we learned that Bob’s favorite dessert is chocolate lava cake and Anne’s is chocolate mousse. Yum! Who doesn’t like chocolate? Yuki’s winning table topics response was about seeing so many chocolate boxes and wrappers in her neighbor’s trash that she speculates she has chocolates for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Phil had a different take on chocolate mousse and talked about eating the ears of a chocolate moose.

Among Master Evaluator Phil’s comments was a particularly tasty remark, that Yuki’s choice of the wordscrumptious added flavor to the meeting.

All in all, in the words of those who were there, it was another delightfully delectable meeting full of exuberance.

We will be having speeches about finding a job during the next three meetings. Hope to see you there.
